Chief Herbs

Ren Shen — Ginseng Root (Panax ginseng)

Powerfully tonifies Yuan Qi (Source Qi), strengthens the Spleen and Lungs, and generates Body Fluids. The primary Qi tonic in Chinese medicine.

Shu Di Huang — Prepared Rehmannia (Rehmannia glutinosa)

Nourishes Blood and Yin, tonifies the Liver and Kidney. The principal Blood tonic — enriches the foundation from which Blood is generated.

Deputy Herbs

Bai Zhu — White Atractylodes (Atractylodes macrocephala)

Strengthens the Spleen and dries Dampness. Supports Spleen function to transform and transport nutrients into Blood and Qi.

Dang Gui — Dong Quai (Angelica sinensis)

Nourishes and invigorates Blood, regulates menstruation, relieves pain. The most important Blood tonic and regulator in Chinese gynecology.

Assistant Herbs

Fu Ling — Poria (Poria cocos)

Strengthens the Spleen, resolves Dampness, calms the Shen (spirit). Supports digestive function and prevents the formula from being too cloying.

Chuan Xiong — Ligusticum (Ligusticum chuanxiong)

Invigorates Blood and moves Qi, preventing stagnation from the tonifying herbs. Key herb to prevent the stagnating side effect of Blood tonics.

Bai Shao — White Peony (Paeonia lactiflora)

Nourishes Blood, softens the Liver, and relieves pain. Harmonizes Ying (Nutritive Qi) and Blood, moderating the dispersing action of Chuan Xiong.

Envoy Herb

Zhi Gan Cao — Honey-fried Licorice (Glycyrrhiza uralensis)

Tonifies Qi, harmonizes all the herbs, moderates the formula, and supports the Spleen. Classic harmonizing herb of Chinese medicine.
