Chief Herb

Hua Shi — Talcum

Clears Heat, drains Dampness, and promotes urination. Directly addresses the accumulation of damp-heat in the Bladder.

Deputy Herbs

Che Qian Zi — Plantain Seed (Plantago asiatica)

Clears Heat, promotes urination, and separates the clear from the turbid in the Lower Burner.

Mu Tong — Akebia Stem

Drains Heart Fire down through the Small Intestine and Bladder, strongly promotes urination and relieves Lin syndrome.

Assistant Herbs

Qu Mai — Dianthus (Dianthus superbus)

Clears Heat, drains Dampness, and unblocks painful urinary dribbling. Also invigorates Blood in cases of blood in the urine.

Bian Xu — Knotweed (Polygonum aviculare)

Drains Dampness, clears Heat, and stops itching. Treats damp-heat in the Bladder and intestines.

Zhi Zi — Gardenia Fruit (Gardenia jasminoides)

Clears Heat and drains Fire from the Three Burners, cools Blood, reduces jaundice. Eliminates irritability and restlessness from Heat.

Zhi Da Huang — Prepared Rhubarb (Rheum palmatum)

Drains Fire and clears Heat from the Stomach and Intestines, unblocks bowels, invigorates Blood.

Deng Xin Cao — Rush Pith (Juncus effusus)

Clears Heat from the Heart and Small Intestine, promotes urination and guides the formula to the Bladder.
