Formula Composition

Chief Herb

Du Huo — Pubescent Angelica Root (Angelica pubescens)

Expels Wind-Damp from the lower body, especially the lumbar region and lower extremities. The primary herb for lower body Bi syndrome from Wind-Cold-Damp.

Deputy Herbs

Sang Ji Sheng — Loranthus (Taxillus chinensis)

Tonifies Liver and Kidney, strengthens sinews and bones, expels Wind-Damp. Uniquely addresses both the excess pathogen and the underlying deficiency.

Du Zhong — Eucommia Bark (Eucommia ulmoides)

Tonifies Kidney Yang, strengthens the lumbar region and knees, supports sinews and bones. Classic herb for lower back weakness.

Niu Xi — Achyranthes Root (Achyranthes bidentata)

Tonifies Liver and Kidney, invigorates Blood, and guides the formula downward to the lower extremities.

Assistant Herbs

Ren Shen — Ginseng (Panax ginseng)

Tonifies Yuan Qi to support the overall deficiency underlying chronic Bi syndrome.

Dang Gui — Dong Quai (Angelica sinensis)

Nourishes and invigorates Blood, reduces pain. Blood deficiency allows Wind to penetrate — nourishing Blood expels Wind.

Rou Gui — Cinnamon Bark (Cinnamomum cassia)

Warms the Kidneys, disperses Cold from channels, promotes circulation of Qi and Blood.

Fang Feng — Siler Root (Saposhnikovia divaricata)

Expels Wind-Damp, relieves pain and spasm. Gently disperses Wind from the exterior.
