Formula Composition

Chief Herb

Cang Zhu — Gray Atractylodes (Atractylodes lancea)

Strongly dries Dampness and strengthens the Spleen. More drying than Bai Zhu — ideal for excess damp patterns without significant deficiency.

Deputy Herb

Hou Po — Magnolia Bark (Magnolia officinalis)

Moves Qi downward, dries Dampness, and relieves fullness, distension, and stagnation in the middle burner.

Assistant Herbs

Chen Pi — Tangerine Peel (Citrus reticulata)

Moves Qi, dries Dampness, and harmonizes the Stomach and Spleen.

Gan Cao — Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza uralensis)

Harmonizes all herbs, tonifies Spleen Qi, and moderates the drying herbs.

Envoy Herbs

Sheng Jiang — Fresh Ginger (Zingiber officinale)

Warms the Stomach, disperses Cold-Damp, and aids the chief herbs in drying dampness.

Da Zao — Jujube Date (Ziziphus jujuba)

Nourishes Spleen Qi and Blood, harmonizes the formula, and moderates the harshness of the drying herbs.
