Formula Composition

Chief Herbs

Huang Qi — Astragalus Root (Astragalus membranaceus)

Powerfully tonifies Wei Qi and Spleen Qi. The addition over Ba Zhen Tang — adds warming Yang support to the base Qi-Blood formula.

Rou Gui — Cinnamon Bark (Cinnamomum cassia)

Warms the interior, strengthens Ming Men Fire, disperses Cold, and promotes circulation of Qi and Blood.

Deputy Herbs

Ren Shen — Ginseng Root (Panax ginseng)

Strongly tonifies Yuan Qi, supports all organs, and generates Qi and Body Fluids.

Shu Di Huang — Prepared Rehmannia (Rehmannia glutinosa)

Deeply nourishes Blood and Yin — the foundation of all physiological function.

Assistant Herbs

Dang Gui — Dong Quai (Angelica sinensis)

Nourishes and invigorates Blood, regulates menstruation, relieves pain from Blood deficiency.

Bai Shao — White Peony (Paeonia lactiflora)

Nourishes Blood, softens the Liver, and harmonizes Ying Qi.

Chuan Xiong — Ligusticum (Ligusticum chuanxiong)

Invigorates Blood and moves Qi — prevents the heavy tonifying herbs from causing stagnation.

Bai Zhu — White Atractylodes (Atractylodes macrocephala)

Strengthens Spleen and dries Dampness to support digestion of the tonifying herbs.

Fu Ling — Poria (Poria cocos)

Strengthens Spleen and calms the Shen.

Envoy Herb

Zhi Gan Cao — Honey-fried Licorice (Glycyrrhiza uralensis)

Harmonizes all herbs, tonifies Qi, and moderates the formula.
