Chief Herbs

Jin Yin Hua — Honeysuckle Flower (Lonicera japonica)

Clears Heat and resolves Fire toxicity. One of the most important anti-infective herbs in Chinese medicine — broad-spectrum antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory.

Lian Qiao — Forsythia Fruit (Forsythia suspensa)

Clears Heat, resolves Fire toxicity, and disperses Wind-Heat. Acts synergistically with honeysuckle as the classic heat-toxin clearing pair.

Deputy Herbs

Niu Bang Zi — Burdock Seed (Arctium lappa)

Disperses Wind-Heat, benefits the throat, and resolves toxicity. Relieves sore throat and swollen lymph nodes.

Bo He — Peppermint (Mentha haplocalyx)

Releases Wind-Heat from the Exterior, cools the head and throat, relieves headache and red eyes.

Jie Geng — Platycodon Root (Platycodon grandiflorus)

Opens the Lungs, expels Phlegm, soothes the throat, and guides the formula to the upper respiratory tract.

Jing Jie — Schizonepeta (Schizonepeta tenuifolia)

Releases the Exterior, disperses Wind, and stops itching. Helps induce mild sweating to expel the pathogen.

Dan Dou Chi — Fermented Soybean (Glycine max)

Releases the Exterior and relieves irritability. Assists the chief herbs in ventilating the surface.
